New Build Brickwork Cleaning
New Build Clean in Maidstone - Brickwork Cleaning
Another one ticked off this week, this time over in Langley just outside Maidstone.
New build site, and by the time we got there the scaffold had been struck and the plot was finished. Everyone else had come and gone. We were the last trade on it, the finishing touch before it gets signed off and handed over. Wet and windy from the moment we pulled through the gates, with the rain coming straight across the open ground at the back of the plots.
Freshly laid brickwork always needs a proper clean down before handover. Mortar smears, splashes and lime bloom sit on the face of the brick and dull the whole thing, and the longer it's left the harder it is to shift. It's the difference between a plot that looks finished and one that looks nearly finished.
No scaffold needed for our end of it. We work the whole elevation safely from ground level, right up to the top courses, so there's no tower to put up, no ladders, and nothing to hire back in once the scaffold's gone. That matters on a finished plot. It means we can come in at the very end without holding anything up or adding cost back onto the job, and on a day like this one it's a lot safer than anyone being up in that wind.
From there it's about working the wall in sections rather than blasting it. The brick was already saturated so it doesn't take the clean the same way, and if you're heavy handed you can open the joints up. Slow and steady, stepping back and checking as you go, keeping the run-off under control so you're not chasing streaks back down the wall afterwards.
You can see it in the photos: the brickwork comes up crisp and even with the colour properly coming through and the joints nice and sharp. Cold hands and wet boots, but the wall's right, and that's the bit that gets looked at for the next fifty years.
